Supply Chain Manager

Reports to: Director of Manufacturing


The Purchasing manager is the top procurement manager at the Company. It is a strategic position where global sources of materials and services must be discovered, developed, and managed in order to provide the Company with state of the art, high quality, affordable parts and services on time to support the Company’s goals and requirements for its programs. The position is required to pro-actively integrate with all stakeholders. The manager is responsible for the procurement of commodities through the development and implementation of commodity strategies plans and the management of supplier relationships. Other areas of responsibility include price negotiation, planning, production, and inventory control interface with the operations team, assist with supplier quality control and logistics.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation and execution of tactical and detailed project plans for the purchasing function to support successful launch of all Company projects. 
  • Works with Program Management, Engineering, and Sales to develop BOM costs for Request for Quotes (RFQs).
  • Identifies potential global sources for part, components and systems.
  • Follow through on new business as it launches to ensure pricing remains as negotiated and program timing is adhered to.
  • Assist management with initiating new business cases for current business to ensure best global pricing on current and future business.
  • Working with legal and leadership staff, develops and issues contracts including but not limited to; i.e. Letters of Intent (Nomination Letters), Long-Term Agreements, Purchase Orders for capital equipment, supplier tooling (for production), and production part purchase orders.
  • Facilitates new RFQs and is responsible for internal tracking and follow up actions for current design changes for both current and future business   i.e. Engineering Change Notices.
  • Development of supplier tool payment schedules.
  • Negotiation of all commercial aspects with the supply base.
  • Works with Quality Dept to track & document supplier program milestones which support Company program milestones including production tooling kick off to suppliers that meet PPAP timing requirements.
  • Coordinate and execute all prototype orders and prototype supplier component deliveries for 100% on time customer order and delivery to support Engineering and Program requirements.
  • Follow up on capital equipment process to include any internal funding process and ensure program milestones are met.  
  • Develop supply base and combine program volumes where applicable to keep costs down.
  • Supports Quality in managing the supplier performance system with assistance from the Engineering, Quality, Production and Accounting Departments.
  • Develops and implements supply base strategy.
  • Develops and implements cost reduction strategy.
  • Establishes and maintains controls to receive replacement items and/or credit on all returns to suppliers.
  • Supports supplier evaluations to identify potential new suppliers.
  • Develops commercial, financial and quality Supplier Survey in conjunction with Engineering, Financial and Quality departments.
  • Supports supplier development, consolidation and reduction programs.
  • Responsible for supporting Operations JIT material requirements and keeping inventory at lowest levels without risk to eMatrix’s production schedule.
  • Assure purchasing leverage is optimized by providing oversight of the consolidated buy at all divisions of eMatrix as required.
  • Liaise with Accounts Payable Department to ensure accurate and timely payment of invoices, as necessary for the business with the supplier.
  • Employee management responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Manage purchasing requests and ensure proper translation to purchase orders.
  • Issue production parts and prototype parts approved purchase orders to suppliers and confirm receipt.
  • Maintain approved suppliers list.
  • Work with the operations team and supplier partners to specify and design a material storage and handling strategy that minimizes inventory levels, movement and transport to the maximum degree possible.
  • Develop (where needed) and maintain inventory control systems.
  • Support shipping and receiving and any logistics efforts to maintain inventory and provide quality products on time to all customers.
  • Support other functions which need purchasing assistance and/or advice – such as engineering, quality, marketing, etc.

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or similar – required.
  • Masters’ degree in business administration – supply chain management – preferred.
  • Experience in program purchasing roles preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
  • Excellent presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Experience with Intuit Quickbooks preferred. 
  • Must be computer literate and have experience in Microsoft Suite or Google Suit, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
  • Highly developed time management and follow up skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Self-starter, excellent people and problem-solving skills, strong task ownership and superior work ethic.
  • Must be able to relate & communicate well with people at all levels.
