Electrical Wiring Engineer


Reports to: CTO

Purpose

The Electrical Wiring Engineer develops prototype and production wiring and power distribution systems for various energy systems. Work with CAD resources to determine wire bundle routing and retention strategies.  Select appropriate wire and cable sizes for both low and high voltage systems.  Design circuit protection features (fusing, disconnects, etc) for both high and low voltage systems.  Specify appropriate connection systems or high and low voltage systems. Release all drawings and specifications related to wiring and power distribution systems.  Participate in the selection of prototype and production electrical components suppliers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Gather relevant information for electrical components.
  • Create system-level electrical wiring schematic to be used as logical design direction in wiring design.
  • Determine appropriate wire, cable, and fuse sizes.
  • Select appropriate connection strategies. 
  • Retrofit, test, re-work and debug wiring systems on prototype vehicles as needed.
  • Ability to optimize designs for cost, weight, or product flexibility.
  • Electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • Provide Custom Engineering solutions for electrical power distribution and harnessing.
  • Review and analyze complex electrical/electronic systems design. 
  • Review and approve electrical/electronic interface and operation for various pack sub-assemblies. 
  • Check engineering drawings.
  • Ensure that the product is fully and correctly defined and documented.
  • Ensure implementation of formal processes to support the product development process.
  • Interface and coordinate with Purchasing, Vendors, Manufacturing, and other Engineering personnel in the bills of materials, value analysis and testing phases of product development.
  • Interface with Test & Development personnel to identify and analyze problems encountered in prototype development and testing.
  • Determine which industry requirements and specifications apply to the company’s product lines. 
  • Participate in the DFMEA/PFMEA process.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or 10 years relevant experience in wiring systems design.
  • 5 years of experience in complex wiring system design. 
  • Knowledge of Battery systems, sensors, electronic controls and high voltage systems are preferred. 
  • Experience with Fusion 360 design and analysis tools preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
